It is officially 15 September which means THE BONE COTTAGE is out in the world!!!
Saturday my amazing friend Jill and I did a launch event at Libreria in Newton and I sold the first dozen or so copies a few days early. My PR team (*cough* me *cough*cough*) did a terrible job at taking photos and videos but, that’s okay. We’ll work on that for the upcoming autumn and winter events!
It was a bit surreal to stand in the bookstore and pitch this book. It’s been on my computer collecting dust as a draft for so long it just felt like it would never be out into the world. But it is. And I’m holding it in my hands. And that means I have to come up with my pitch. Which seems like it would be far easier than to write over 100,000 words, but it is NOT. It has to be concise so you’re not dragging on but also attention grabbing so people want to read it. But no spoilers. But also enough to be intriguing. And what would I consider a spoiler? And on and on my brain goes.
So far the start of my pitch is: Do you know anything about the Brown Mountain lights? And I sort of jump from there. If they do know about the lights then I say, well, I created my own lore around them and its a story about a witch in the woods and she’s protecting the village beyond the woods from the lights which aren’t just lights. Which… if I’m honest, could use some work.
It took me ages to come up with the pitch for the trilogy so I know I’ll get there with BC but I also know there’s going to be a lot of fumbles on the way there.
On the night before the official release I headed down to Charlotte to celebrate the release of a different book–Burn of the Everflame by Penn Cole. It’s the last in an amazing Romantasy series and I was lucky enough to snag a ticket off the waitlist for the event! Author events are really neat because you get to hear about their process and the things about their stories that you might not get just from reading. I’ve been to a couple of events and I just love them. The cool thing about Penn is that she started as an Indie author and when her books went viral, publishers started reaching out and now she’s on the traditionally published route. Obviously an Indie Author’s dream!
I did decide to channel my inner V. Rose (an incredible friend and creative who is the absolute BEST at making connections with people and putting herself out there whenever she can) and be brave and I gifted Penn a copy of The Bone Cottage. She was so kind and excited for me and actually took the time to open it up and check it out. She asked me questions about the release and how I was feeling and wished me luck. And when it was time to take our photo, she had me hold my book and she held hers and it was so cool and so kind and it was just an awesome night.

So yeah… THE BONE COTTAGE is live and out in the world! I would LOVE if you would give it a read and then, give it a review wherever you bought it or on Goodreads.
Happy Reading!
