The Bone Cottage

COMING SEPTEMBER 2026!!!!!!!

In a world that is constantly telling women to conform, shrink ourselves, and that our value recedes with age, I wanted to write something that celebrated the strength and grace of the divine feminine in all its forms. THE BONE COTTAGE is a fairytale that reminds us there is power in not just the Maiden but the Mother and Crone, as well.

For the last thousand years, there has been a witch in the woods that protects the village from an ancient evil. Morwyn is three hundred years old and lives in an enchanted cottage with an immortal terrier, a house full of ghosts (all the witches who came before her), and a broken heart. When an unexpected ghost turns up and becomes more girl than ghost, she must teach her all the ways of magic. Along the way, she finds the joy and purpose she thought she’d never feel again.

Together, Morwyn and Juniper must protect the village from the old gods that were trapped in the mountain all those years ago by the very first witch. They take payment for their spells in hair and teeth, wishes and dreams that are woven into the cottage itself, which feeds the magic of the mountain. When villagers go missing and all evidence points to the gods escaping their prison, the witches must dig deep and defeat them once and for all.

The Bone Cottage is a story that immerses the reader in lore and myth inspired by the ancient Appalachian Mountains and the cultural identity of the people who call them home. Using the Brown Mountain lights of North Carolina as a jumping-off point for the lore, it’s a cozy fantasy that is told like the fairytales we all cut our teeth on….except in this one, there’s no prince to save a princess but witches who save themselves and their community.

I would place it alongside The Last of the Moon Girls by Barbara Davis (2020) and Weyward by Emilia Hart (2023).
